In celebration of its 80th Anniversary in 2026, the Bachelor’s Program in Tourism at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) UGM presented its first-ever Fun Run event named “FIB Culture Run,” located at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, on Saturday (22/08). The event was attended by more than 600 participants across general and Family Day categories. This event served as a momentum in celebrating 80 years of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences under the theme “Eight Decades of Building Civilization,” as well as the inauguration of the Siti Baroroh Baried Building. The theme emphasizes its commitment to continuously implementing the Tridharma of Higher Education. The implementation of the FIB Culture Run featured three running categories 3K, 5K, and 8K and was held alongside Family Day, an annual agenda to strengthen ties among the extended family of FIB UGM.

The FIB Culture Run was a sports tourism experience that combined a healthy lifestyle with appreciation for the rich community-based cultural heritage of the Indonesian archipelago. This event was designed with a national cultural heritage approach packaged in a modern concept. Previously, the series of events for the 80th Anniversary of FIB UGM in 2026 included various activities such as an open senate meeting, a pilgrimage and visit to retirees, a blood donation drive, sports competitions, an international scientific seminar, and the inauguration of the new building, culminating in the FIB Culture Run and FIB UGM Family Day. The FIB Culture Run began with a prayer, the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya, and opening remarks by the Dean of FIB UGM, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., who also officially flagged off the 8K category at 05:45 WIB. Subsequently, the event continued with the flag-off for the 5K category at 06:00 WIB and the 3K fun heritage walk at 06:15 WIB. The running activity lasted approximately two hours until the cut-off time at 08:00 WIB. Afterward, the event proceeded with door prize distributions, meal distributions for all participants, and transitioned into the FIB UGM Family Day program.

The FIB Culture Run event was initiated by the Dean of FIB UGM, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., who entrusted the Tourism Study Program as the Person In Charge (PIC) for its management. This appointment followed the success of hosting the Tourism Fun Run in 2025. The FIB Culture Run was carried out by a joint committee consisting of lecturers, alumni, and Tourism study program students from the class of 2023, 2024, and 2025. The Chief Executive of the FIB Culture Run, Popi Irawan, S.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed great pride in the dedication demonstrated by the entire committee of lecturers and students in successfully organizing the event smoothly. The organization of this event was also integrated as an output for the Tourism Event course, where students learned to organize an event across pre-event, main event, and post-event phases. The entire organization of the event was executed without using an event organizer and was the result of independent coordination, cooperation, and collaboration within the Tourism Study Program at FIB UGM. Thus, the successful execution of the FIB Culture Run serves as an extraordinary experience for students in managing professional events.

The celebration of this historic moment marking eight decades of FIB UGM also represents a tangible form of academic commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating sports with cultural appreciation, this event directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for the general public and the extended family of FIB UGM. Furthermore, the success of the event—driven by the independent organization of lecturers, alumni, and students—reflects the implementation of SDG 4 (Quality Education) through experiential learning in the Tourism Event course. This was ultimately complemented by solid cross-generational collaboration aimed at realizing sustainable tourism in line with the spirit of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
