As part of an effort to support the improvement of human resource quality, especially in the field of Indonesian tourism, the Tourism Student Association (HIMAPA) of the Tourism Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) UGM, collaborated with PT International Test Center (ITC) to conduct a TOEIC Test at FIB UGM through ITC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. This test provided access to international certification for the Tourism Student Association of FIB UGM on Saturday (04/04) at the Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. The TOEIC Test was attended by 90 out of 100 allotted participant slots, specifically for Tourism students consisting of HIMAPA 2025 members and students from the classes of 2023, 2022, and 2021. This CSR program aims to improve English language proficiency and improve skills for members of organizations that promote tourism in Indonesia.

The TOEIC was conducted as a Paper Based Test (PBT), held in a single day and divided into three sessions: morning, afternoon, and evening. All participating students were divided into these three sessions and attended the exam according to the schedule distributed by the committee. During its implementation, the TOEIC was assisted by three HIMAPA representatives acting as proctors for each session and three ITC representatives serving as test supervisors, journalists, and the documentation team. The exam focused on listening and reading assessments, which serve as the global standard for measuring English proficiency in daily use and workplace environments.

Rasendriya Evan Muhammad Walia, the Main PIC of TOEIC HIMAPA and Chairman of the HIMAPA Mupakarsa 2025 Cabinet, expressed his appreciation for this CSR program. Rasendriya observed that Tourism students were highly enthusiastic and had a strong desire to participate. This TOEIC test is also expected to support career paths, especially for final-year students in transitioning to the professional world through international English certification.
“We hope these TOEIC results can be beneficial for Tourism students and be utilized effectively to explore various opportunities, both in gauging English skills and increasing competitiveness in the professional world,” said Rasen.
Bagus Adi Saputro, Business Communication Team Leader at PT International Test Center (ITC), conveyed a positive impression, noting the enthusiasm and learning spirit shown by students in preparing for their future growth. He believes English communication skills are a vital foundation for professionalism, not just technically, but also in building hospitality quality and confidence when interacting with the international community.

The implementation of this CSR TOEIC program is a strategic step toward fostering Indonesian tourism development by improving the quality of individuals and organizations within higher education. Furthermore, the program received full support from the Head of the Tourism Study Program, the Secretary of the Tourism Study Program, and the HIMAPA FIB UGM Advisor as an activity that promotes student skills. Thus, this certification can be well-utilized by Tourism students to boost confidence, measure individual abilities, and prepare themselves to compete globally in the tourism industry and professional world.
