The orientation agenda for the Bachelor of Tourism Study Programme was held on Wednesday, 7 August 2025, in Rooms S521–S522 of the Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, (FIB) Gadjah Mada University. The event was attended by new students of the 2025 cohort as their first step in getting to know the academic world and learning environment at the Tourism Studies Program at FIB UGM. The agenda not only introduced the general program but also provided comprehensive information on the academic aspects and curriculum of the program.
This activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education by introducing a comprehensive learning system and encouraging students to learn actively, both inside and outside the classroom.

In his presentation, Dr. Narotama highlighted the history, vision, and mission of the UGM Tourism Programme, which is fully committed to producing graduates who are highly competitive at both national and global levels in the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, Dr. Wiwik Sushartami, M.A., Head of the Program, presented the study program’s curriculum, emphasizing that the curriculum is designed to cover theory, field practice, and interdisciplinary skills as well in a balanced proportions of the subjects. During this session, Dr. Sushartami further highlighted a creative jargon of “kurang dolan ora apik” meaning that tourism students are encouraged to actively explore various destinations while applying critical approaches as part of the learning process. This exploration is expected to broaden horizons, enrich experiences, and uncover interesting findings about the potential or issues of tourism in the destinations visited.
This agenda also contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by encouraging prospective graduates to play a role in developing a productive, innovative, and sustainable tourism industry.
The Tourism Study Program’s Student Association of HIMAPA took this opportunity to present the organisation’s profile, its role, and various programmes that serve as platforms for developing students’ interests and talents. During this session, a quiz about HIMAPA and the Tourism Study Programme was held, encouraging new students to participate actively while strengthening a sense of community.
With this comprehensive programme introduction, new students are expected to begin their academic journey with clear motivation and direction, while also instilling an awareness that tourism is not just about travelling, but also about building an inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial future for the broader community.
