The Tourism Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences was officially founded on December 19, 2009, making it among the first undergraduate programs ever established in Indonesia (SK NOMOR 528/P/SK/HT/2009). Prior to the establishment of the Undergraduate Program of Tourism Study, the faculty has founded a vocational program of tourism, a three-year academic program, in 1994.
Since 2010, the Tourism Study Program has continuously served a high-quality undergraduate program, expanding its three core programs of higher education: education, research, and community service. The Tourism Study program provides high-quality education delivered by qualified professors using the most recent teaching materials designed based on current academic trends and debate. Similarly, in the area of research, Tourism Study Program’s teaching staff regularly conduct research and publish their research findings on peer-reviewed journals. The Tourism Stydy Program’s staff also conduct regular community services, mostly in the form of rural community assistance in optimizing rural tourism resources, which accumulate in designed rural tourism attractions.
The Tourism Study Program stives to graduate professionals who possess multicultural insights, are able to develop their knowledge in accordance with current academic debates, have a leadership spirit, care about humanitarian issues, and are able to part of national excellence.
In determining the profile of graduates, the study programme conducts a consignment with external parties consisting of study programme partners, users of study programme graduates, and the Indonesian Tourism Academic Study Programme Consortium (Koprodikpari).
Many graduates of the tourism study programme are absorbed by industries/agencies in the tourism sector. Some examples of industries / agencies that collaborate and absorb the number of graduates of the study programme are the Gunung Kidul Tourism Office, Women Tourism in Indonesia, Desa Wisata Institute, Indecon, Bukit Vista, Mercure Hotel, Gama Wisata.
