Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

Tourism FIB UGM which is part of the best universities in Indonesia strives to prepare graduates who excel and have cultural sensitivity in thinking critically, collaboratively, and innovatively in the field of tourism. With the mastery of theoretical concepts and practical skills, graduates are equipped to become initiators and decision makers with integrity in the development of sustainable tourism and real contributions at the national and international levels making Tourism graduates of FIB UGM ready to compete in the global world.

To achieve this, students will take education based on the following ILOs:

  1. Upholding humanitarian values in  carrying out responsibilities based on religion, ethics, and morals

  2. Demonstrating intellectual behavior, adherence to a code of ethics, independence, and critical thinking in lifelong learning within the tourism sector

  1. Mastering theoretical concepts and skills as initiators, designers, implementers, and decision-makers who are ethical and culturally aware in the field of tourism.

Curriculum & Courses

The Bachelor in Touris Program has an academic vision as a provider of superior, culture-based higher education with a Pancasila outlook by accommodating the implementation of the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program and based on the latest research results so that graduates are able to provide problem solving, design, implement, evaluate, manage, and write in the field of sustainable tourism to answer humanity and national challenges, both at the local, national and global levels.

  1. KKN-PPM | 4 Credits
    Students are required to undertake Community Service Program (KKN), which includes proposal preparation, submission to partners, implementation, and reporting.
  2. Community Communication | 2 Credits
    Part of the Community Service Program (KKN) for social humanities.
  3. Knowledge Management Application | 2 Credits
    Part of the Community Service Program (KKN) for social humanities.
  4. Health Literacy | 2 Credits

  5. Pancasila (State Ideology) | 2 Credits
    The Minimum Standard Document for the Syllabus/RPKPS of Pancasila Education, prepared by the Pancasila Education Lecturer Team and MKWU UGM Coordinator, refers to the Mandatory Book of MKWU Pancasila Education by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, developed by lecturers based on thoughts that evolved within MKWU UGM in February 2018, and is intended as a normative reference for leaders, lecturers, students, and academic staff.
  6. Islamic in Context/Catholic Education/Christian Education/Hindu Education/Buddhist Education | 2 Credits
    Believing, understanding, and explaining the truth of various aspects of religious teachings, integrating them into each discipline, and applying them in the form of personality and daily behavior.
  7. Citizenship Education | 2 Credits
    The MKWU course, particularly Citizenship Education, serves as a means of developing lectures to support UGM’s learning program, emphasizing five pillars of education, process-oriented, and aiming to enhance students’ abilities, independence, and responsibility with a problem-based approach, international perspective, and information technology.
  8. Final Thesis/Scientific Findings/Journal Article (Scopus, Sinta 1-4), Policy Paper | 4-8 Credits
    This course represents the final assignment for undergraduate students.
  1. Introduction to Cultural Sciences | 3 Credits
    This course provides knowledge about the concept of culture through theory, field observation, and discussion, covering aspects of ontology, epistemology, axiology, linguistics, literature, anthropology, history, archaeology, and multiculturalism.
  2. Cultural Practice | 2 Credits
    This compulsory faculty course aims to form students who are sensitive to cultural phenomena through direct practice of batik, gamelan, dance, and drama, with an introduction to Indonesian and evaluation in the form of demonstrations or videos.
  1. Introduction to Cultural Heritage Management | 3 Credits
    This course discusses Indonesian cultural heritage, including types, legal rules, management, and its relation to tourism, with face-to-face teaching methods, field observations, case study discussions, and concept application assignments.
  1. Indonesian for Scientific Writing | 3 Credits
    This course aims to enhance writing skills and proficiency in Indonesian for both spoken and written forms. It focuses on organizing scientific papers according to each student’s field of study, which is useful not only during their studies but also for higher education and professional careers.
  2. Introduction to Tourism Studies | 3 Credits
    This course aims to equip students with a basic introduction to tourism studies, covering ontology, epistemology, and axiology. It also includes a critical understanding of tourism phenomena through theoretical approaches, using multidisciplinary project-based learning to encourage cross-field collaboration and measure the improvement of independent learning skills.
  3. Introduction to Tourism Management | 3 Credits
    This course provides a basic understanding of tourism management systems, covering three main areas: tourist destinations, hospitality, and travel. Discussions include aspects of planning, organizing, monitoring, controlling, and evaluating tourism activities. As tourism grows as a strategic economic driver, good management becomes crucial to ensure sustainability and optimal benefits. Learning is conducted through lectures, literature studies, assignments, discussions, and final projects.
  4. Tourism Law and Policy | 3 Credits
    This course discusses the strategic role of the government in tourism management through planning, evaluation, and control functions to promote sustainable, inclusive, and beneficial tourism development. The focus includes tourism legislation and regulations in Indonesia, public policy, national policy directions, tourism systems, current policy issues, and tourism policy planning, analysis, and evaluation.
  5. Japanese Language | 3 Credits
    This course is designed for non-Japanese Language and Culture students at UGM to provide basic understanding and skills in Japanese through lectures, Q&A sessions, and conversation practice with instruction in both Indonesian and Japanese. Evaluation includes exercises, quizzes, mid-term, and final exams.
  6. Arabic Language | 3 Credits
    This elective course is conducted face-to-face in the classroom. It is a proficiency course that teaches the basics of Arabic for everyday communication.
  7. French Language | 3 Credits
    This course is an A1.1 level French language course focusing on mastering basic oral and written communication through everyday themes, with an interactive project-based approach for individual and group projects. Assessment emphasizes creative communication skills in French.
  8. Korean Language | 3 Credits
    This course introduces basic Korean conversation for Tourism students while introducing various Korean tourist destinations. It aims to equip students with foreign language skills important in the tourism sector and as a foundation for advanced proficiency.
  9. Sustainable Tourism | 3 Credits
    This course discusses the basics of sustainable tourism development on national and international scales, including key dimensions and current issues through case studies, to equip students with analytical competencies in sustainable tourism.
  10. Tourism Issues | 2 Credits
    This course provides in-depth insights into current discourses in tourism studies, emphasizing understanding of the latest issues through face-to-face teaching, active participation-based assessment, mastery of material through quizzes and assignments, and a final project in the form of a media presentation.
  11. Cultural Perspectives in Tourism | 3 Credits
    This course teaches the dynamics of culture in tourism with an emphasis on critical analysis of the impact of tourism from various perspectives, social-cultural intersections, and the use of critical thinking through lectures, literature reviews, and collaborative projects based on structured and final assignments.
  12. Tourism English | 3 Credits
    This course aims to provide structured understanding and training to master language skills, including speaking, reading, listening, writing, and grammar in the context of tourism and hospitality, in line with the increasing practice of global tourism and the need for foreign language skills among tourism practitioners.
  13. Tourism Marketing | 3 Credits
    This course provides an in-depth understanding of managerial strategies and marketing practices for tourism products comprehensively and innovatively through studies and case studies in the tourism industry, focusing on marketing techniques, planning, appropriate media utilization, and marketing mix strategy formulation to achieve desired goals.
  14. Hospitality Studies | 3 Credits
    This course provides an understanding of the hospitality industry, including background, management procedures, analysis of key elements in hospitality and catering, and critical review of current issues, with exploration of various forms and practices locally and globally through real case studies.
  15. Tourism Psychology | 3 Credits
    Tourism psychology studies the relationship between cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of human behavior in tourists, including motivation, decision-making, the impact of travel, and the behavior of tourism practitioners in serving tourists.
  16. Tourism and Environment | 3 Credits
    This course examines the interaction between tourism and the environment, including the use of natural resources, the impact of tourism development, and issues of sanitation, health, and hygiene, with a case study-based and project-based learning approach to encourage multidisciplinary collaboration.
  17. Tourism Human Resource Management | 3 Credits
    This course discusses the important role of humans in the diverse tourism industry, including HR management strategies from organizational design, recruitment, training, career planning, performance evaluation, to welfare and occupational health and safety procedures.

    This course examines mobility, migration, and their relationship with tourism from social and environmental perspectives, including travel, sustainable transportation, and migration implications, with lectures, field observations, and project-based case studies.

Persyaratan KKN-PPM UGM

Academic Requirements:

  1. Registered as an active student
  2. The Community Service (KKN) course is compulsory for students in the Diploma 4, S1 (Bachelor), and Professional Programs at Universitas Gadjah Mada, carrying 8 credits and requiring a minimum of 2 months or 288 hours of effective fieldwork
  3. Have completed at least 96 credits of lectures and practicums with no E grades
  4. Be registered as the Community Service-Community Development Learning (KKN-PPM) participants in the faculty, as documented in the Form of Study Plan (KRS) for the semester in which the KKN-PPM takes place
  5. In reference to the Circular Letter from the Vice Chancellor for Education, Teaching, and Student Affairs No. 3889/UN1.P.I/DIR-PP/DI/2020 regarding Data Filling of SIA Simaster, we hereby inform you about changes to the Study Plan Form system for the KKN-PPM UGM activities, as detailed below:
    • KKN for period 1 is recorded in the Study Plan Form in the even semester
    • KKN for period 2 is recorded in the Study Plan Form between semesters
    • KKN for period 3 is recorded in the Study Plan Form in the odd semester 
    • KKN for period 4 is recorded in the Study Plan Form in the even semester 
  1. Not currently enrolled in courses and practicum
  2. Are not in the pregnancy period (for female students)
  3. Verification of the list of prospective KKN-PPM participants is carried out by the faculty to the Directorate of Community Service (DPkM) through the faculty admin simaster.
  4. KKN-PPM activities are recognized for 8 credits, with the following details:
    • UNU222001 KKN-PPM – 4 credits
    • UNU222002 Community Communication – 2 credits
    • UNU222003 Application of Appropriate Technology – 2 credits for students in the agro science and technology cluster, or UNU222004 Application of Knowledge Management – 2 credits for students in the social humanities and health cluster.

 

Administrative Requirements:

  1. The academic and administrative requirements of prospective KKN-PPM participants must be verified by the academic department of the faculty.
  2. Students must be verified as KKN-PPM participants by the Faculty Admin. 
  3. Prospective KKN-PPM participants must attend debriefing, general tests, and KKN-PPM medical tests as scheduled.
  4. KKN-PPM participants are those who have been registered on simaster.ugm.ac.id, fully attended KKN debriefing, completed the General Test, and passed the health test.

Thesis Requirements

ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Students who plan to take the undergraduate thesis in their Study Plan must meet the following requirements:  

  1. Have a status as an active student.  
  2. Have completed at least 108 credits.  
  3. Maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00.  
  4. Have successfully passed the prerequisite undergraduate thesis/course.

 

SUPERVISION

  1. The study program assigns one thesis supervisor to each student and submits a request for a Decree (SK) of supervision to the dean.  
  2. The dean issues the decree for thesis supervision.  
  3. Students are obliged and entitled to receive regular supervision, with the procedures outlined in the procedure manual of each study program.
  4. Guidance is scheduled for 1 (one) semester.  
  5. If students are unable to complete the undergraduate thesis within one semester, the study program must conduct an evaluation to find an appropriate solution.  
  6. Thesis writing should follow the  Undergraduate Thesis Writing Guidelines.

 

THESIS DEFENSE

  1. The undergraduate thesis defense takes place once the thesis supervisor or appointed party confirms in writing that the thesis is ready for examination.  
  2. The defense must be conducted no later than two weeks after the thesis is submitted.  
  3. The defense panel consists of three examiners, including the thesis supervisor.  
  4. The defense panel includes the chairperson, member, and the thesis supervisor; both the chairperson and the supervisor also serve as a member. 
  5. The defense can be held a maximum of two times if the first defense is failed or if revisions are submitted late.  
  6. Thesis revisions must be completed and approved by all examiners, as indicated by their signatures, no later than two months from the defense date.  
  7. If the student fails to complete the revisions within the given deadline, a re-examination will be required.  
  8. If the second examination also results in failure or late submission of revisions, the student will be considered to have failed and must withdraw from the Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, or be declared unable to complete their studies (drop out).

 

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS OF THESIS DEFENSE

Students must email the undergraduate thesis manuscript and the required registration documents to the Tourism Study Program Admin at pariwisata.fib@ugm.ac.id with the subject line: “REGISTRATION OF UNDERGRADUATE THESIS DEFENSE OF TOURISM STUDY PROGRAM_ (Student Name).”

  • Files to be Submitted as Attachments:
    1. Proof of approval from the supervisor stating the thesis is ready for examination (email or WhatsApp screenshot).  
    2. Temporary transcript of grades approved by the academic advisor (DPA) (screenshot of approval).  
    3. PDF version of the temporary academic transcript.  
    4. Scanned copy of the Student ID Card.  
    5. Proof of the latest Tuition Fee payment and/or re-registration History from Simaster.  
    6. Scanned copy of the thesis guidance card (if available).  
    7. Digital file of a coloured passport photo.  
    8. Undergraduate thesis manuscript (PDF format).  
    9. Undergraduate thesis manuscript (Word format).  
    10. Two soft copies of E-Books on Tourism.  
    11. TURNITIN report of the undergraduate thesis manuscript (PDF format) with a similarity index of no more than 20%.  
    12. Three printed copies of the undergraduate thesis manuscript (to be sent to the Department of Archaeology after sending the thesis defense registration requirements via email).  
    13. A PPT presentation file for a 15-minute session (including Background, Formulation of the Problem, Research Methods, Results, and Conclusions). 
    14. Two 3×4 colour printed photographs (to be submitted along with the printed manuscript).  
  • Photo Requirements:
    • Photo Size and Format 
      • Colored photo with a white background.  
      • File size should not exceed 2 MB, with a 3:4 size ratio in .jpg format (photos that do not meet the required size/ratio should be cropped).  
      • The photo should be proportional (face occupying 25%-30% of the total photo area).  
      • The distance between the head and the left and right borders should be approximately equal.  
      • The edge of the shoulders should not be visible in the photo.  
    • Clothing
      • Men: White shirt, black tie, and black suit (not the alma mater suit).  
      • Women: White shirt and black blazer (not the alma mater suit).  
      • Women wearing hijab: White shirt, black suit (not the alma mater suit), and a black headscarf tucked into the shirt.
    • Position  
      • Body and head must be upright and aligned, facing forward.  
      • Both earlobes must be visible for those not wearing a veil.  
      • No glasses, veils, masks, or other facial obstructions are allowed.
    • Photo Quality
      • The photo must be clear/sharp, not blurry.  
      • Scanned or reproduced photos from mobile phones are not acceptable.  

Judicium & Graduation Requirements

  1. Register as a judicium-eligible student by sending an academic transcript to akademik.fib@ugm.ac.id  (email subject: Study Program Name_Application for Judicium Eligibility_NIU_Student Name). Requirements include: all compulsory courses, including Community Service (KKN) and undergraduate thesis, must have a minimum grade of C; total credits must be between 144-160; no E grades; and elective courses with a D grade must not exceed 25% of total credits.  
  2. Submit the judicium file in a folder by the 20th of each month. If the 20th falls on a holiday, Saturday, or Sunday, submission is due the following Monday.
