Tourism Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a cooperation meeting with Saxion University on Friday, February 28, 2025. This visit is part of the ongoing cooperation established between the two institutions in recent years and is an important momentum in strengthening academic collaboration globally. The visit was attended by representatives from Saxion University, Jan Willem Meijerhof, as Head of Internationalization, Hospitality Business School, and Jasja Bos, Manager International Partnerships.

As Indonesia’s tourism industry continues to grow, gender dynamics play a crucial role in shaping its direction and sustainability. Gender inequality remains a significant challenge, often hindering women from contributing freely without discrimination. This issue was highlighted by Anindwitya Rizqi Monica, S.Par., M.Si., Co-Founder & Strategic Director of Women in Tourism Indonesia (WTID), a non-governmental organization advocating for gender equality in tourism. A young and lively tourism activist, , Monica, as she is commonly known, invites us to explore how collective efforts in women’s empowerment can create a more inclusive environment while promoting gender equality across all aspects of Indonesia’s tourism industry.
Gadjah Mada Journal of Tourism Studies (GamaJTS) is a periodic journal of Indonesian tourism published by the Tourism Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada. It is a peer-reviewed scientific tourism journal published two-times a year in April and October by using the OJS (Online Journal System) platform. GamaJTS publishes research reports, conceptual works, empirical studies, theoretical applications, and book reviews in the field of tourism studies with the aim of examining the economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of tourism studies at multiple scales and disciplines.
Sport tourism is now becoming a trend in Yogyakarta, attracting the attention of local and foreign tourists. The city, renowned for its rich culture and history, is now also increasingly recognized as a sports tourism destination.
“Waste can have a significant impact on tourism, and we urgently need more sustainable waste management solutions,” said Nicholas Jeffery Goodwin, Ph.D., CEO of Tulodo, during a public lecture at the Tourism Study Program on October 17, 2024, at the Soegondo Auditorium, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. The session was moderated by Diyah Ayu Puspitasari, S.S., M.A.
The synergy and collaboration established in Sembrani Tourism Village proved rewarding for the Student Association’s Capacity Building Program of Tourism Student Association (PPK Ormawa HIMAPA) team and the residents of Sembrani Village. The team successfully advanced through the visitation stage for the 2024 Abdidaya Ormawa candidates. The visitation is part of an appreciation program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research for student organization teams, lecturers, and village partners involved in community empowerment. The visitation marks a significant milestone, serving as tangible proof of the team’s long journey and reinforcing the role of students as agents of transformation of national development through village empowerment, incorporating agro-tourism and education-based tourism innovations.
