The Tourism Student Association (HIMAPA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada held its official leadership handover ceremony on February 9, 2025, in Room 209, Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. This moment marked the conclusion of the Gamahita Cabinet’s term and the beginning of the new administration under the Mupakarsa Cabinet, which is ready to guide HIMAPA into a new chapter filled with innovation and enthusiasm. The event was also attended by the Head of the Tourism Study Program at UGM, Dr. Wiwik Sushartami, M.A., who delivered a speech and extended her appreciation to the incoming Mupakarsa Cabinet.
Beato, the outgoing HIMAPA President, shared his hopes for the next leadership term:
“Cabinet transitions are the first step toward meaningful change. Believe in your capabilities and commitment. I wish you all the best as you sail through the waves. Thank you, Gamahita. Forward, Mupakarsa!” he expressed.
Meanwhile, Rasendriya Evan, the newly elected President of the Mupakarsa Cabinet, conveyed his aspirations for the organization to not only benefit tourism students but also the surrounding community.
“The 2025 Mupakarsa Cabinet aims to continue being a platform for tourism students to sharpen their soft skills and engage in non-academic activities to explore their interests and talents. We prioritize an inclusive, supportive environment with a strong sense of commitment. Hopefully, the values and experiences gained during this administration will be impactful, not only for tourism students but also for the wider community,” he affirmed.
The name “Mupakarsa” is derived from a blend of two Sanskrit words mupakara and karsa and one English word, sail. Mupakara refers to individuals who care for one another to foster a positive, family-like environment. Karsa means sincere will and intention to do good for others. Meanwhile, sail symbolizes HIMAPA 2025 as a vessel for students to navigate and develop their talents.
The values embedded in the name Mupakarsa are also reflected in the organization’s vision and mission:
Vision:
To establish HIMAPA as a unifying platform that promotes open communication and the development of academic and non-academic potential for tourism students in an inclusive, supportive environment with high commitment.
Misi:
To create a professional, transparent, and spiritually grounded HIMAPA environment
To foster a sense of kinship and belonging among members
To build networks and partnerships with other organizations and stakeholders
To make HIMAPA more active and broadly impactful
The Mupakarsa Cabinet is introducing a range of innovative programs to be carried out by each division, some of which will involve direct engagement with local communities. HIMAPA’s dynamic activities contribute to achieving SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, while also supporting SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. The Tourism Study Program has expressed full support for the cabinet and its programs, aligning with SDG 4: Quality Education. These initiatives not only provide valuable organizational experience for students but also aim to bring positive change to the tourism sector and the community.
