Education and Learning
The quality of the learning process is continuously enhanced in accordance with the implementation of the Higher Education Quality Assurance System at Universitas Gadjah Mada. At the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), learning activities are administratively managed by the Academic and Student Affairs Division. Meanwhile, related to the content and name of the course, the management is divided into two categories: compulsory University courses and compulsory Faculty courses, which are managed by the Faculty Leader (Vice Dean for Academic Affairs). On the other hand, courses related to specific areas of expertise are designed and managed by their respective Study Programs. Thus, student lecture schedule in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences consistently includes compulsory university courses, compulsory faculty courses, and study program courses, with the distribution of these courses determined by each study program.

Research
Research is primarily conducted mainly by teaching staff, either individually or in groups. Research funds originating from UGM are managed through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and allocated to the faculty through the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. These funds include support from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of National Education, with various types and qualifications. The implementation of this research program has changed since the implementation of the Annual Budget and Activity Plan (RKAT). The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) introduced a competitive system, designating major topics as an interdisciplinary research umbrella. This system is administered by FIB UGM’s Research and Community Service Unit.
FIB teaching staff also engage in research through institutional collaborations both domestically and internationally, as research staff for UGM’s study centers, or through individual partnerships with government and private organizations outside the university. Most research outputs are archived in the Faculty of Humanities Library, UGM. Over the past three years, teaching staff participation in research activities has shown a consistent annual increase.

Community Service
Community service activities are structured under the Research, Training and Community Service Unit as well as those organized by each study program individually and in groups. Community service programs managed by the Research, Training and Community Service Unit are also offered openly with pre-determined selection and qualifications. Proposals that meet the qualifications will receive community service funds as the cost of implementation.
Community service is also carried out by each study program in accordance with its field of study, either at the request of the community or at the initiative of the study program concerned. To further enhance synergistic cooperation among the teaching staff of the study programs, the faculty leaders facilitate interdisciplinary Community Service Programs through competitions. The teaching staff’s participation level in the community service activities prior to the implementation of the competition system exhibited a promising upward trend.
